Tagbanua Leaders Partner with WP ABCD for Community Development Project
Barangay Sagpangan, Aborlan, Palawan, Philippines
On January 24, 2026, WP ABCD conducted a meeting with leaders of the Tagbanua communities as part of its Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) project. The gathering marked the beginning of conversation toward strengthening community development through a locally driven and asset-focused approach. Leading up to this meeting, the team had been engaging the community through regular visits and initial workshops on values clarification and environmental awareness and preservation.
A heartfelt conversation between the Tagbanua leaders and the WP ABCD CEO Ms. Edith Sola, sharing visions for the community’s future.
Held in Barangay Sagpangan, Aborlan, Palawan, the meeting brought together leaders from three Tagbanua barangays: Sagpangan, Senletan, and Kabigaan. Those present were Perlita Biribid, Nora Abrena, Adalina Ramsa, Rio Montealto, Lenita Biason, Katrina Porka, Estelito Porka, Mingly Santos, Elsa Ranoco, Perlito Baguid, Jennifer Pao, and Annalyn Pao.
The purpose of the meeting was to affirm the role of the leaders as “Tagapangasiwa” and “Tagapamahala” which mean stewards and managers entrusted with guiding and supporting their people. It also served as a time to unite them in planning and preparing for a meaningful community development project.
Nanay Nora suggests paying a courtesy visit to the tribal leaders to strengthen relationships and dialogue.
The ABCD approach focuses on identifying and building upon existing resources within the community rather than beginning with needs alone. While a more detailed understanding of the community’s present challenges and priorities will follow in an upcoming visit, the leaders have already expressed their desire to move forward in unity and partnership. They have requested a courtesy call with Barangay Officials and respected Tribal Leaders to ensure alignment and proper coordination.
Community participation remains central to the initiative. A general assembly meeting is being planned, to discuss and make collective decisions, and engage in open forums. These meetings make sure that every member has a voice in shaping the project’s direction.
One of the initial aspirations shared by the leaders is to develop livelihood opportunities centered on honey and ginger, resources readily available within the community. They hope to establish a sustainable livelihood program that will benefit Tagbanua families.
To realize this vision, the community is seeking support to connect with skilled trainers, obtain essential tools, and access quality materials for effective workshops. WP ABCD aims to empower community members with practical skills, through the help of other partners, and make the most of local resources.

With shared purpose and deep care for their community, the Tagbanua leaders dream of a future where this community development project not only generates sustainable income but also produces remarkable products that proudly represent the excellence and cultural heritage of Palawan.
