Natural Farming Brings New Skills and Hope to Palawan Communities

Palawan, Philippines

Natural Farming became a shared learning journey for 41 farmers from the Cuyunin-speaking community in Salvation and nearby Batak community, who gathered at Camp Tikvah Palawan from May 22–25, 2025. The three-day workshop, organized through WP ABCD program, was designed to introduce farmers to new farming ideas while building on the knowledge and resources already present in their communities.

The training was led by SEED PROJECT ASIA , headed by Jonathan Libag, together with two other facilitators who shared their expertise in natural farming practices. The workshop introduced farmers to sustainable and natural methods of cultivating crops. It helped them discover practical ways to improve their harvests while caring for the environment.

Throughout the workshop, participants explored various natural farming techniques, including planning their plots, planting methods, nurturing and managing crops, using organic fertilizers effectively, pest control, and correct harvesting practices. The training focused especially on the needs of subsistence farmers who rely on small-scale farming to support their families.

Beyond technical farming skills, the facilitators integrated values-based education into the sessions. One unique feature of the training was the use of songs about farming, with lyrics designed to help participants remember key principles of natural cultivation and stewardship of the land.

The event also received strong local government support. Barangay officials attended the workshop to encourage the community’s efforts to improve sustainable farming practices.

By the end of the workshop, the farmers warmly expressed their appreciation for the new knowledge and skills they had gained. Beyond learning practical farming techniques, the training inspired a spirit of collaboration.

Organizers highlighted that the workshop was a meaningful step toward empowering local farmers, equipping them with practical tools and insights to improve their livelihoods and care for their land.

WP ABCD remains committed to support and equip communities through practical and sustainable programs. The WP ABCD Center will continue to be a hub for future community development activities and training programs, inspiring communities to grow, learn, and thrive together.
